Hello all
First post here! Looks like a great info site. I'm wondering if anybody has tried to put a TKO 5 speed in a 70 442? Being an A body is the floor the same as a Chevelle or is it larger. Please let me know.
Thanks
Jim

I've just started the process of putting a 5 speed in my 1970.
During the ordering process through Silver Sport Transmissions, Gene Charsha,
has just updated my quote and I'll be placing my order soon.
One thing I noticed on my car, is the A PILLER Body to Frame mount was collapsing,
which caused the Clutch, (when speed shifting, was grinding the gears/ synchro's)
These transmissions may be a bit longer in length, so a shorter yoke, or a shortened
driveshaft may be in order.
Frames are basically the same. Olds, Buick, Pontiac, and Chevelle.
(GOOD) Parts stores, can tell YOU WHATS INTERCHANGABLE AND WHAT ISN'T.
Best to find a store with a machine shop and find a Balancing shop that cuts and fabs shafts.
I'm lucky... There is an axle shop right around the corner where I live in Sandwich Ma...
Cape Cod Axles, that does all the work I need.
(They repair numerous FWD Cars with CV Style axles shafts.)
Silver Sport Transmissions, if you give them the length you need, will fab one for you.
$$$$$$$$$ More Money, but hey, were only here a short time.
Measure many times...Check what the manufacturer suggests you need for the slip, in the yoke.
Once its cut and welded....well you know the answer to that.
It may be able to be done twice but who wants to do that.
Get the degree angle correct... you don't want Bad Vibrations.
Call me : Jet Boat Dave 1-508-367-6661...Good luck. After 5....or before 9:00 AM
