I have the same problem with my car, it happens in the same manner as well, after braking usually, i was able to determine that it was my front left wheel speed sensor. It is a pending abs code or something like that, and it said something like variant signal. i checked it with the scan tool we have at work at canadian tire. i havent tried a new wheel bearing yet though, which is what i might do, because they sensor is built into it.but if you could afford it, i would try it.

Now when you say speed sensor, is that not different from the ABS sensor?

Id hate to replace a bearing at $180.00 when the bearing itself is good. What does Canadian tire charge for a scan?

The computer uses the speed sensor for the abs, the sensors are all compared to each other i think or something like that. And as for the scan it may be around 20 - 30 dollars, im not quite sure. Wow, i never actually priced the wheel bearing, that is a good chunk of money. Another idea i was told about though, is that the tone ring is dirty, that is the part i think around the head of the axle that the sensor makes a signal with, because it is a magnetic sensor, so the ring has notches that breaks up the magnetic feild. it would probly be a big job to look at the tone ring though, i think its kinda hidden from view, sorry i couldnt help you much more, but thats all i can figuire out at this time.

The signal from each of the 4 speed sensors is compared. The "tone ring" is built into the bearing, it cannot get dirty, and cannot be inspected either, without tearing the bearing apart.
Have you checked all the wiring for continuity from the computer to the hub?

Start at each bearing and trace backwards. Unplug the connector at each hub, looking for corrosion, water, loose fit etc. The fronts are more likely to have pinched or broken wires than the rear, due to the constant flexing with steering.
