Hi, I have a 2000 Alero, and my boyfriend just noticed yesterday it was overheating a bit, The heat level in the car says a little over 1/2 way. When we opened the hood and started the car, we noticed both fans by the rad are not running! we let it run for a few minutes and it started making a sqeeling noise, (by the altenator belt) so we turned off the car, the coolant overflowed all under the car, it looks like it came out of the overflow. Any idea's on what the problem could be? My boyfriend is thinking it may be the thermastat.. has anyone else had this problem? Thanks a lot!

The overflowing coolant probably got the alternator belt wet, causing it to slip and make noise. Not a big deal.

A little over half on the temperature guage is normal.

I would go to a radiator shop and get the radiator flushed and thermostat changed. It shouldn't be more than about $90 US. Get the dexcool coolant out, and put in some other kind. Dexcool has been linked to a lot of problems, especially if it gets old, or gets air in it.
