94 Cutless EGR sensor

my check engine light comes on i got a dianogstic and it says my EGR Sensor #3 has failed. Dose any one know what it dose for the car?

I would like to know about this.
I have service engine soon came on and stay on for maybe 20 to 30 minutes.
