1998 Eighty Eight issues
I recently purchased a 1998 Oldsmobile 88 from my brother in law after doing a head gasket. Car had a dead battery so it was sold to me because they didn’t wanna fix that.
Get it charged, and jumped and fires off. Have to hold the RPM around 1500+ or it’ll stall and I see behind me tons of white smoke and it smells like burning plastic or something. I start getting worried so I shut it off and it continues to smoke for a couple mins and I see a small puddle of oil dripping from the exhaust and some sprayed on the grass behind it.
I know these are known for intake manifold gasket failures and upper intake warpage but I used new gaskets of course and the upper intake wasn’t warped in the usual place they do so. We didn’t notice any cracks in the heads either, and we torqued them to spec and all. What on earth went wrong or did I do wrong. There is also lots of coolant in the oil, it’s almost completely white.

That’s what I was afraid of. Huge bummer since I spent a week doing a head gasket on it and since it’s only got 159k miles thankfully engines are cheap.
Next question, for pulling the engine, is it possible to leave the trans in and pull the engine off it or do they need/easier to be pulled together?
