Question Washers - to be or not to be - that is the question

Hi Folks, I am nearing final assembly on a 1962 Starfire engine. Putting in Roller rockers, roller timing chain, forged pistons and a mild performance cam. Anyway, that is not the problem. The previous builder's work was very sloppy with a hodgepodge of fasteners. Wondering if anyone knows the simple answers as to what kind of washers (if any) were used on the bolts. For example, would have a choice of flat, lock, none., or both.
1. Timing chain cover
2. Thermostat housing
3. Intake & Exhaust manifolds
4. Head bolts

Thanks for your trouble. Rustednutz
