371 normal operating temps
I have a '58 371 4bbl. that has factory air with a newer aluminum condensor. Always seemed to run hot even when the A/C parts were not installed. I recently added a temp guage to help me keep an eye on thins beyond the cold/hot lights. (Hot light comes on sometimes when long hot idles EVEN without A/C on. Longblock is new and radiator recored two years ago. though I'm not sure if it is the correct Harrison unit for an A/C car or not. Have the correct A/C 7 blade fan and HD water pump in place. Even have original fan shroud! (
The new temp guage indicates "normal" down-the road temps are about 200 and idle temps go above 220--- and higher by 10 degrees or so with A/C running .
My next move is to move from my existing 180 Tstat to a 160.
Anybody got comments for me?
PS...really miss no overflow system versus newer cars -- can never "fill" the radiator it seems without boiling the top tank right back out.
