Hi, I have a 1970 Cutlass S with a 350 olds engine in it.

I see the casting number behind the timing cover as395558 and a bigger #2 after that.

The cylinder heads have a big # "8" stamped on them near the #1spark plug holeand the other one is in the back near the #8 spark plug hole.

What do these numbers mean?

Also,

Do these engines haveEGR valve? My suspicion is that this intake manifold was swapped with a later oldsmanifold because this intake has an EGR valve.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

395558 2 blocks were used in 68-72.Could be the right block.

8 heads are 73-76 smog heads with 79cc chambers. That'sreally bad. Should be 6 heads with 64cc chambers.

I believe EGR valves were used 73 on, too.

Sounds like somebody replaced the entire "upper" engine with the bad smog stuff, for whatever reason. Who knows what they did to the internals...cam, pistons, etc.

That block casting number was the same from 68-76. The heads were used 73-76.
