Default Anyone ever taken a seatbelt reel assembly apart?

The title says it all...

"Anyone ever taken a seatbelt reel assembly apart?"

You know, the take-up reel that has the plastic cover that says "Do Not Remove", like under the back seat or on the rear window ledge.

If not, I'm going to take on the adventure and try to swap out the belts in a back seat take-up reel. I'll take pictures for a injury-by-injury re-telling, if it's exciting.

Later,

Default

I don't think it would be dangerous, but if you want to reuse it I wouldn't bet on it working again.

Default it all depends...

on whether I can get the spring back on the damn thing and have it still have the correct tension.

I'm not sure how much tension they're under when assembled, but it's possible that white plastic cover could rocket across the shop, inflicting wounds at any chance.

If I hold it with a shop rag, it should stay under control. It probably takes a special jig or holder to assemble them.

Other than the spring, it's just a leveler and a ratchet or two. Pretty simple, actually.

We'll see...
