To my dismay my 02 Alero makes a thunk/creak noise when i turn the wheel. At first the repair was determined that it was the lower steering arms which the bushings had come out. I paid the hefty bill and yet my car still makes the noises. I have now been told that it is my rack and pinion system which is not an inexpensive repair! My car also hops when accellerating quickly from a stop. Any one have any ideas?

just had that fixed on my alero. The lower bushing were soon worn and damage that most of the clunking noise disappeared, but the remaining noise is coming from the rack and pinion. The rack and pinion is made form cheap castings and wears considerably. The cranking sound is coming from the pivoting action while turning. These problem was told to me that Aleros with high mileage experience it the most
