Question Tranny fluid change?

New to me 2004 Silhouette with 13500 mi. Tranny fluid looks old. Will changing the fluid cause any problems with this old of a tranny? Do I get a fluid exchange where they pump new fluid in while draining the old out or have the pan dropped and filter replaced and new fluid added?

Is the mileage 13,500 or 135,000? If 13,500 fluid should be fine.

In answer to one of your questions, changing the fluid should not cause any problems.

Filter should not need changing if only 13,500 miles on car. I would change if miles are 135,000. Of course to change, must drop pan.

Dropping/draining pan does NOT remove fluid in converter.

It's 135000. I missed 1 zero. My bad. Again my concern is, will changing the fluid at this milage cause any problems? I've read pros and cons about doing fluid change with this much milage. Some say it will cause the tranny to fail, others say that is an old wives tale. ???? Any tranny pros out there? As of now its working good and seems to shift O.K. The fluid is a clear almost amber color and has a burnt smell.
