Hey all, wondered if you had ever experienced problems with your steering parts -- I took the car (wife usually drives it) to the store and was annoyed to find that it was making an awful whine when turned, but it would lessen on straight shots -- Came home, popped the hood, and what did I find but a nearly bone dry reservoir, dipstick not even touching.... I drove it this a.m. to work, wife took it home - I asked her if she noticed anything odd or strange when coming home... "No, but I had the radio on kinda loud...." Nice....

Any places known to leak bad? That's got to be it, since it seems like it was an instantaneous thing...

 

HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID , MIGHT BE JUST TIME TO ADD FLUID. I HAVE FOUND THE BEST WAY TO CHECK FOR LEAKS IS TO PLACE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD UNDER THE CAR WITH THE TIRES ON THE CARDBOARD , THEN WHEN YOU MOVE THE CAR OFF THE CARDBOARD YOU CAN TELL EXACTLY WHERE THE FLUID LEAK IS. I RECENTLY REPLACED A POWER STEERING HOSE ON MY AURORA WITH 130K MILES. WHEN THESE RESERVOIRS ARE LOW IN FLUID THEY WHINE LOUDLY WHEN TURNING. MINE WOULD POUR FLUID WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP EITHER FULL LEFT OR FULL RIGHT TURN.

 

Got 'er figured out - it was the pressure line from the pump to the rack... It had a big crack in it, so it was leaking fluid everywhere... All fixed now.
