Morning!

I've been banging my head against the wall for nearly 8 weeks now. I paid about $350 to have a new (but used part) A/C compressor installed by my mechanic who has had to replace it twice because it was "bad". Problem began with a high pitched ringing noise when ever I turned on the heat - It eventually got so bad it was doing it all the time. He claimed if I didn't replace it - the belt would cease? So I replaced it. Well - I took it back to him two weeks ago to have it replaced again - but this time all he did was clean the A/C clutch. It didn't make any noises until today (2 weeks later). I'm a bit frusterated because my mechanic is being a nimcompoop about it and well.. $350 is alot of money for a part that just doesn't seem to work properly. My curisoty is - it seems to only make this noise when it's moist outside or raining. When it's dry - it doesn't do it. Will the belt REALLY cease up?

Any expierances with this specific part? Input or suggestions? Is my mechanic taking me for a ride?

It could be the belt itself. If it is glazed, it could slip and sqeal when moist evenif it seems tight. The pulley on the compressor could also be glazed. Run some rough sandpaper around it when you replace the belt.

Should I just replace the belt than? Would that be easier?

Replace the belt vs Replace the compressor (again)?

1. Find a new mechanic.

2. Belt. And you, your husband, or your fathercan do it.

3.Go over the pulley with sandpaper.

4. Report back.
