Default Blown Head Gasket?

Well, I was driving the other night doing around 40 in my 82 Cutlass Supreme with the 231 V6 and I give it a bit of throttle to accelerate. Doing so caused the engine to give out a loud pop that was audible and felt throughout the car. So I am a little concerned at that point. I try to accelerate my car and it wouldn't and shook a lot. White smoke did come out of the exhaust as I did this. Would this be a blown head gasket? It is weird because at idle, no symptoms at all, only when you accelerate and it gets to a certain point does it show all symptoms. So if anyone out there can help me out, let me know. Thanks.

Has the coolant level dropped? If so, you've got a blown gasket. Smell the exhaust, sometimes you can smell the burning coolant.
Look at all the spark plugs for wetness. Look in the radiator for brownish goo, and in the oil for milky white goo.

My sentiments exactly,

To address the issue of not showing symptoms at idle, if you're still not sure after checking everything Iflylow mentioned, see if at a prolonged idle it heats up quicker than usual, and if it's a slow or small leak then you won't really notice the symptoms until the motor's spun up higher which is when there will be more pressure on the cooling system, thus more water going through

Well, it is confirmed that it is a blown head gasket. Thanks for the help and advice as there was water on my spark plugs, the water reservoir would completely empty, and as I consulted with my cousin who does own a repair shop. it shouldn't be toooo bad since it can still handle some pressure at idle. So, hopefully no warped heads. But thanks for help you guys. Greatly appreciated.
