Hi,

I was told that my 2002 Intrigue had a minor oil leak (possible pan gasket leak) during the oil change in early March. I also often checked the oil level and found it kept lowering and reached "ADD" yesterday. Now it's time to change oil again. I'm wondering how muchit costs to fix this problem (by changing the pan gasket leak or other things). Could I get it fixed in the oil change shop? Thanks a lot.

MY FIRST STEP WOULD BE TO CONFIRM THE PROBLEM. PLACE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD UNDER THE ENGINE OVERNITE TO DETERMINE EXACTLY WHERE THE LEAKS OCCURS. ONCE YOU HAVE DETERMINED WHAT IS LEAKING YOU CAN DO SOME THINGS YOURSELF TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. LOOK FOR OIL SPOTS ON THE REAR OF THE CAR ( BLOWOUT ) . CHECK THE PAN BOLTS FOR LOOSENESS , IF THE OIL LEAK IS FROM THE OIL FILTER TIGHTEN IT OR REPLACE IT . DID THIS OIL PROBLEM OCCUR SUDDENLY ??? YOU MAY HAVE A MECHANIC WHO NEEDS SOMETHING SIMPLE TO FINISH OFF HIS DAY AT YOUR EXPENSE. IF YOU DONT FIND A LEAK AND THE CAR IS HIGH MILEAGE YOU MAY HAVE A CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WHICH CAN BE ADJUSTED BY CHANGING WEIGHTS OF OIL OR INSTALLING ADDITIVES. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED.
