Service Engine Soon?

Ah, a garage would be nice! Someday... I figure I'll tackle the plugs/wires first, and then see if it doesn't clear the code -- if not, we'll do the O2 sensor (or few) and probably throw in the fuel filter for kicks! Would you recommend doing the PCV valve too? Super cheap, and easy fix it seems. Anything else I'm missing for a tune up?

Another question -- do I need to change the ignition coils too, or are they good for a while? I took the grounds off (uncovered the connections) and they looked pretty shiny still, but with a few minor scorch marks... What do you think?

I have done all of that except the PCV valve and coils in the driveway...
There are only 2 o2 sensors. The front one is the important one that adjusts the mixture. The rear sensor only verifies correct operation of the catalytic converter. However, both will cause a check engine light.
PCV valve will not help your code, but it is cheap and easy...can't hurt.
If you don't have a misfire, I'd leave the coils alone. When I did my wires, I put some spark plug boot grease on the connections, to make a better connection, and it worked fine.

The front 3 plugs aren't an issue, its the back 3 were your'e getting the crazy prices from. You have to take off the upper intake manifold and get a super long wrench to get down at them...they suck! I did them once...never again.

I did mine without removing the upper intake manifold, but as you say, it is not an easy job. Plan on each back plug taking as long as all three front plugs. No special tools are required, but an extra joint in your arm would be nice.

Well, I got them in -- didn't end up doing it myself, didn't ever find the time!! I took it into a friend at a local shop, charged me for an hour of labor, so $70 was all. She idles soooo much better, and my SES light went off!
